Face coverings

Today the Welsh Government has revised their guidance regarding the use of face coverings in school.

The guidance now states that face coverings should be worn:

• in all areas outside the classroom by staff and learners in secondary schools and colleges

• on dedicated school and college transport for learners in year 7 and up

• by visitors to all schools and colleges, including parents and carers picking up and collecting children.

This means, every child and member of staff in the school will have to wear their face mask in every area outside the classroom when they arrive in school and during break time and dinner time outside. As you realise, as a school, we have a duty to follow the regulations. Thank you for your support.

22/10/2020 - I know that by now you are all familiar with the lockdown arrangements which will start at 6pm on Friday night this week and end on November 9th. This is only a short lockdown period so there is no cause for any pupil to worry.

In seeking to protect education as much as possible the following decisions were made for the week of November 2;

· Secondary schools will be open to children in years 7 and 8, while other pupils will continue to learn from home for that week. This will include teachers delivering online lessons from the classroom.

· Those re-sitting GCSE and University entrance examinations in November will be able to do so at school.

· Free school meal arrangements are already in place for half term and will continue for pupils in year 9 and above for the second week.

· School transport and the catering service will continue as normal for year 7 and 8 pupils

Sept 2020 - Following county instructions, http://newsroom.carmarthenshire.gov.wales/2020/08/coronavirus/face-coverings-for-secondary-school-pupils/#.X0jCTshKi1s it is therefore necessary for all pupils to wear face coverings on all school transport. Following a risk assessment of Ysgol Bro Myrddin's building we ask all pupils to wear face coverings inside the building when walking around the corridors. We will adapt the requirements as the week’s progress. We ask you as parents to provide your child with a face covering for their first day at school, where possible.

The council will provide a reusable face covering for those pupils who do not have suitable provision.

As you know, the safety of our staff and pupils is a priority for us and we have taken this action to minimise any risk.

Thank you for your co-operation.

6/9/2020 - The canteen will be supplying food for every pupil this week - a limited choice of hot and cold food. Therefore, you do not need to bring sandwiches.

I'm sure most of you have seen the announcement on the Carmarthenshire website about face coverings for secondary school pupils. See the link below for details:

3-6-2020 - I'm sure most of you have listened to the education minister, Kirsty Williams speaking today and probably know by now that every pupil is going to be back with us here in Bro Myrddin in the three weeks time. The school will re-open our doors for our pupils on the 29th of June and we really look forward to that. Of course not all pupils will be back at the same time or the same days. We will have more details soon.

22-6-2020 - It is important that year 10 and year 12 pupils check their pastoral Google Classrooms as schedules for the next three weeks will be shared. Timetables will include details of lessons and more importantly what rooms. Remember that it is possible for pupils to have a chat with school staff by contacting them through Google Classrooms or via the confidential heads of year messaging page.
Further information for our pupils on the schools on-line intranet - including the Headteacher's greeting. Correspondence for Parents are available on Parentpay.

Free School Meals payments – coronavirus

From the week beginning Monday, May 4, the majority of eligible families will receive payments into their bank / building society accounts. As well as making it easier for families, this also follows Government guidance regarding essential travel. The payments will be made every fortnight so that parents / guardians can continue to provide breakfast and lunch, five days a week for their child / children.

QE High School will no longer be used as a food hub or as a collection point for free school meals after tomorrow. This will be provided by Ysgol Bro Myrddin instead from Monday, April 6. This is because the kitchens at QE High could be used to support the temporary hospital at Carmarthen Leisure Centre.

Children who are entitled to free school meals will also receive dry, tinned and other long-life food supplies to feed the whole family.

They are open Monday to Friday, between 9am and 11.30am and are run by council staff who have been redeployed to help deliver essential services. Please note the food hubs will not be open Good Friday (April 10) and Easter Monday (April 13).
